First of all, I want to apologize for the downtime over Thanksgiving. Apparently the UNL network didn't give my server its proper IP address.

Anyway, I just have to say it. Go Nebraska! That was a really embarassing game for CU. I mean, 30 to 3? It almost seemed like they weren't even trying. And it's not like Nebraska has been any good this year.

Also, the Broncos game was awesome. Both teams, the Broncos and the Cowboys, racked up 21 points in the first half. In the second half, the only score was Jason Elam's game-winning kick. That man is awesome. He has scored more points for the broncos than any other player, even John Elway. Anyway, it's looking more and more like we might have a shot at going to the Super Bowl. Unfortunately, to get there, we are probably going to have to play the Colts (who just happen to be the only team in the league with a better record).

Shopping on black Friday was also very fruitful this year. I got some pretty good movies at Wal-Mart for only $3.44. Additionally, I got $150 worth of ink from Office Depot for $75, even though I wasn't supposed to. The sale says Office Depot brand ink only, but apparently the branch in Loveland didn't know that. I'm not complainig!

Last Friday started off with Warren Buffet and Bill Gates speaking at the Lied Center. All of CBA and the JDE program were invited. Additionally, some of the CBA students were invited on stage. We were first shown some amusing video clips of Bill and Warren. Gates and Buffet then came to their chairs, and the students on stage began asking them questions. Buffet was, as always, incredibly witty. In addition to making fun of himself, he also poked fun of Gates numerous times. They are both quite amazing people.

As the Gates and Buffet event went over time, we were all late getting back to Kauffman for the corporate board event. As the official student photographer, I had to run up to my room to get my camera, which meant I was even later. Anne Sweet directed me to a chair in the front. When I went to sit down, I saw that Anne Sweet had given me Jeff Raikes's chair. Anyway, I sat down and listened to Raikes speak about the corporate board and what they have been doing for the program. This was followed by a Q&A session.

During the short break, I commandeered a chair in the front row on the other side of the room. A few short minutes later, Bill Gates himself came in. His speech was about his vision of the future of technology. Afterwards, there was another Q&A session. Finally, David Graff, Matt Mueller and John Wirtz presented Gates and Raikes with a few gifts: a signed football, some framed photos of the Huskers, and authentic Husker jerseys. Gates received number 1, and Raikes received 1.1. After Dr. Keck's closing thank-you, Gates was escorted out of the building, and some minutes later the rest of the people in the great hall were permitted to leave.

All in all, the day was awesome. Definitely worth skipping class! I am very glad I was here for it, and I hope that the program will be able to attract such people on a regular basis.

Recap for the weekend: Huskers win (barely), Broncos win (barely), Tico's margaritas excellent.

Nebraska's offense still has yet to show up for the game. And to top it off, our defense nearly gave up enough points that it might have mattered. On the other hand, the last three minutes of play were amazing. We had to give Pitt the ball back near the end of the game, up 7 to 6. Terrible defensive calls left them knocking on our doorstep, in field goal range. But between the crowd and multiple timeouts, their kicker was psyched out of his mind and the kick went bad. The student section roared, but they still had another down and time on the clock. But on their second attempt, the kick was blocked. The crowd then erupted in cheers. It was glorious.

I also caught the last quarter of the Broncos game. We seemed to be playing pretty solidly, but between Elam's two(!) missed field goals and two red zone turnovers, the game was tied at 17 until the last few seconds of the game. Then Mr. Elam made his third field goal for the win. Apparently he has never missed three attempts in a single game, ever.

And yes, I did go to Tico's again on Friday, and I had their strawberry margarita. Simply fantastic.
