About

Biography

My name is Nick Steinbaugh, and I am a software engineer, photographer, and web/graphic designer. I graduated from the J.D. Edwards Honors Program at The University of Nebraska - Lincoln in 2006 with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science and French, and again in 2007 with an M.B.A.

Upon graduating for the second time, I began working for IBM as an I.T. Specialist, a technical consulting position. I am travelling most weeks for the job, but I greatly enjoy the opportunity to see new parts of the country, and I am constantly meeting new people on my different projects.

Production

This site serves as my personal weblog, containing journal entries in the traditional sense, but the primary focus of the site is my photography. I strive to put every photograph I take on this site, which has resulted in many thousands of photos being published. Additionally, I maintain a list of all of the movies and music albums that I own, and also a list of wines that I have been able to taste and review.

Photography

Since October of 2009, most pictures on this site were taken with a Canon 7D. The majority of photos before that but after 2006 were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel XTi. Prior to that, most photos were taken with a Canon Digital Rebel. Most photos were taken by me, excepting only pictures in which I am present.

Code

The site is written in Microsoft ASP.NET 4.0, which is in turn rendered into XHTML 1.1 and CSS 2.0. The site uses MySQL as its data store, and the ASP.NET RSS Toolkit for all RSS functionality. For the photo gallery, the site makes use of a home-grown solution written in Silverlight 4. All data management, such as posting blog entries and photos, is done using a custom-developed WPF solution. The site has been tested in all recent versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.
